GOLDBLATT

a documentary

overview

Many first witnessed the iniquities of apartheid through the lens of South Africa’s foremost photographer, David Goldblatt. At 86, after 70 years of image-making, Goldblatt continues his unrelenting, prolific protest-in-pictures against inequality and social injustice in South Africa.

However, the single picture he wishes to make most eludes him still: the land as seen, in his words, “through the eyes of a virgin.”

Drawing on Goldblatt’s rich catalogue, and with interviews from Nadine Gordimer and William Kentridge, this is a meditation on identity, place, and longing, set within the complex, ever-shifting landscape of South Africa.
